The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Hon. Bola Oyebamiji, ahead of the August 15 governorship election.
APGA’s candidate in the election, Prince Adesina Adeyemi-Doro, announced his withdrawal from the race and declared his support for Oyebamiji at a political gathering in Osogbo on Saturday.
Adeyemi-Doro said the decision followed consultations with the party’s leadership and members across the state.
He said the consultations convinced him that aligning with Oyebamiji and the APC was in the best interest of the state, stressing that both parties shared progressive ideals.
“I am here today to declare publicly to the good people of Osun State our allegiance, support and collaboration as we join His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji, and the All Progressives Congress,” he said.
Adeyemi-Doro added that he had closely assessed the candidates and consulted with the APGA state chairman, secretary and other senior members before arriving at the decision.
He expressed optimism that the political alignment would help deliver victory to Oyebamiji at the August 15 poll.
Responding, Oyebamiji welcomed the endorsement and pledged to work with the former APGA candidate and his supporters if elected.
“Thank you so much. I appreciate this, and I want to assure you that we will work together to rescue Osun State from the current bad government. Your people will be taken care of,” Oyebamiji said.
He also disclosed that his campaign would continue to engage other political parties and groups in a bid to build a broader political coalition ahead of the election.
Also speaking at the event, Ambassador Issah Adedotun Niniola, Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, described Adeyemi-Doro’s decision as a significant boost to the APC’s campaign.
Niniola said the development could strengthen Oyebamiji’s chances in the August 15 governorship election while also contributing to the APC’s political prospects ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
He commended Adeyemi-Doro for what he described as a “bold step,” maintaining that the latest alignment demonstrated growing support for the APC and President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
“The APC is the party to beat,” Niniola said, expressing confidence that the party would emerge victorious in the Osun governorship election.
