The Federal High Court in Gusau, Zamfara State, has adjourned to July 28, 2026, a suit challenging the conduct of the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Zamfara North Senatorial District.
The case was instituted by APC senatorial aspirant, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, against the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the APC, and Senator Sahabi Ya’u Kaura, questioning the validity of the primary that produced Kaura as the party’s candidate.
When the matter came up before Justice Hassan Dikko, the court noted that the APC and INEC were neither represented nor properly served with the originating court processes.
Following the development, the judge adjourned the matter to July 28, 2026, for further mention and directed that all defendants be duly served. The court also granted them time to file their responses before the next hearing.
Speaking with journalists after the proceedings, counsel to the third defendant, Barr. J.C. Shaka, disclosed that he had already filed a motion seeking the dismissal of the suit.
He argued that no valid APC senatorial primary election was conducted in Zamfara North that produced his client as the party’s candidate.
Counsel to the plaintiff, Barr. Bello Galadi, confirmed that the matter came up for mention and expressed confidence that justice would be served when all parties appear before the court.
He maintained that the suit challenges what he described as the alleged irregularities that characterised the senatorial primary election, insisting that the exercise failed to comply with the relevant provisions guiding the conduct of party primaries.
