The Delta State House of Assembly has commenced its six-week annual recess, temporarily suspending plenary to allow lawmakers attend legislative capacity-building programmes, engage with their constituents and attend to other official commitments.
The decision followed a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Emeka Nwaobi, and seconded by Hon. Pereotu Oloye (Burutu II), which was unanimously adopted during Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor.
Before adjourning the House, Speaker Guwor commended members for their commitment, discipline and dedication throughout the just-concluded legislative session, describing their contributions as vital to the Assembly’s achievements.
He urged lawmakers to make productive use of the recess by participating in scheduled legislative training programmes aimed at enhancing their knowledge and improving their effectiveness as legislators.
The Speaker also encouraged members to return to their constituencies to interact with residents, assess their needs and gather feedback on government policies and programmes for appropriate legislative action upon resumption.
Guwor further applauded the management and staff of the Delta State House of Assembly for their professionalism and unwavering support, noting that their commitment has continued to ensure the smooth administration of the legislature.
He equally commended members of the media for their consistent, balanced and responsible reportage of the Assembly’s activities, including plenary proceedings, committee engagements and oversight functions.
The Speaker called for sustained collaboration between the media and the legislature in promoting public awareness of the House’s activities and acknowledged the contributions of other stakeholders towards the passage of people-oriented bills and motions.
He wished lawmakers, staff and all stakeholders safe travels during the recess and expressed confidence that members would return refreshed for the next legislative session.
The Delta State House of Assembly is scheduled to resume plenary on Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
