Former governorship candidate, Sani Abdullahi Shinkafi, has officially declared his intention to contest for the Zamfara North Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections.
Shinkafi, widely known as Wannan Shinkafi, made the declaration on Sunday at his residence in Gusau shortly after obtaining his nomination form.
The event also witnessed the reception of over 1,000 supporters from the All Progressives Congress (APC) who pledged their allegiance to his camp.
Explaining his decision, Shinkafi said his entry into the senatorial race followed sustained consultations and encouragement from stakeholders and residents of the zone.
He noted that his ambition is driven by a desire to strengthen his engagement with the people and address key developmental challenges facing the district.
He expressed concern over what he described as longstanding challenges in Zamfara North, particularly insecurity, which he said has impacted socio-economic activities in the area.
Shinkafi assured that if elected, he would work collaboratively at the National Assembly to advance legislation and attract federal interventions aimed at improving security and promoting development in the district.
“With effective representation, we can address critical challenges and facilitate meaningful development for Zamfara North and the state as a whole,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the supporters, group leader Hon. Abdullahi Zurmi said their decision to align with Shinkafi was based on confidence in his leadership capacity and commitment to public service.
He pledged continued support and mobilisation across the senatorial district to ensure the aspirant’s success at the polls, expressing optimism that his representation would positively impact the region.
Political observers say the influx of supporters is likely to strengthen Shinkafi’s position ahead of the 2027 elections.
