Orusi Secures Fresh ICC Mandate Unopposed, Uba Clinches Secretary In Orderly Poll

In a peaceful and well-organized election reflecting strong internal cohesion, Kenneth Orusi has been re-elected unopposed as Chairman of Indigenous Correspondents’ Chapel (ICC), Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, while Dorathy Mbasen Uba emerged winner of the contested Secretary position.

The election, conducted on Monday, April 20, 2026, at the Chapel Secretariat, saw members overwhelmingly reaffirm confidence in Orusi’s leadership, granting him a second three-year mandate to continue steering the affairs of the chapel.

Godwin Otuedoye was elected Vice Chairman, while Kent Enweliku emerged as Treasurer.

Chairman of the Credentials Committee, Ben Ogbogo, disclosed that the committee successfully managed the electoral process despite initial challenges, ensuring transparency and credibility.

He noted that the Secretary position was the only contested office, with Collins Efecha Gold and Dorathy Uba vying for the role.

Out of 23 accredited voters, Uba secured a clear victory with 17 votes, defeating Gold, who polled six votes.

In his acceptance speech, Orusi expressed appreciation to members for the renewed trust and commended the peaceful conduct of the election.

He also acknowledged the leadership of the Delta NUJ Council under Comrade Churchill Oyowe, and appreciated the support of stakeholders, including Josephine Omodior.

He assured members that his administration would place priority on their welfare while consolidating on the achievements of his first tenure.

He pledged improved performance and sustained growth for the chapel in the years ahead.

Orusi also called for unity among members, extending a hand of fellowship to all, including his opponent, and urging collective commitment toward advancing the chapel’s progress.

In his remarks, Oyowe congratulated the newly elected executives and stressed the importance of unity and inclusiveness.

He urged the leadership to complete the executive structure through a by-election to fill outstanding positions.

The event featured the administration of the oath of allegiance to the newly elected executives by Josephine Omodior.

Dignitaries in attendance included members of the State Working Committee, Celestine Aforkoba and Christian Eze, as well as National Ex-Officio Felix Igbekoyi and Ifeanyi Olannye, Chairman, Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel.

Also present where the pioneer Chairman of the Chapel cum Life Chairman, Comrade Spence Friday Idighri, pioneer Vice Chairman, Comrade Emeka Okelum Okonta, the immediate Past Secretary of the Council, Comrade Deacon Patrick Ochei aka Gentle Lion among others.

The smooth and peaceful conduct of the election has been widely regarded as a strong indication of sustained unity and progressive leadership within the ICC.
