The Executive Assistant to the Delta State Governor on Public Enlightenment (Projects and Policies), Mr. Olisa Ifeajika, has described the administration of Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori as a truly people-oriented government committed to deepening democracy, accountability and inclusive governance across Delta State.
Speaking on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at BEL Dialogue 2026, a public policy dialogue themed “Democracy That Works: Bridging the Gap Between Votes, Results and Institutional Accountability,” Ifeajika said the Oborevwori administration has continued to demonstrate that governance is about serving the people and delivering tangible results.
According to him, the Delta State Government remains a shining example of a government “of the people, for the people and by the people,” with policies and programmes designed to improve the lives of citizens while strengthening democratic institutions.
He stressed that Nigeria’s democracy can only flourish when citizens actively participate in governance through sustained civic and electoral education, insisting that Nigerians must understand both their rights and responsibilities in the democratic process.
Ifeajika noted that greater public awareness would enhance participation, promote transparency and reinforce confidence in the electoral system from voting through collation and the declaration of results.
He also called for stronger institutional accountability, urging electoral officials, security agencies and political actors to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and integrity during elections.
According to him, there should be clear legal consequences for any official or stakeholder found undermining the electoral process, stressing that effective sanctions would serve as a deterrent and further strengthen public trust in democracy.
The Governor’s aide maintained that a credible democratic system requires disciplined institutions, responsible leadership and an informed citizenry, adding that these principles align with the governance philosophy of Governor Oborevwori’s administration.
He commended Governor Oborevwori for sustaining people-focused policies and programmes that continue to promote transparency, accountability and inclusive development across Delta State.
Ifeajika added that with sustained civic education, effective legislation and strict enforcement of electoral laws, Nigeria’s democratic institutions would become stronger, more credible and better positioned to deliver good governance for all.
