The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has intensified environmental sanitation activities across strategic corridors in Asaba as part of preparations for the forthcoming Delta State Economic Summit slated for August 2 to 5, 2026.
The comprehensive cleanup exercise, which began on Thursday, is focused on ensuring that the state capital presents a clean, orderly and investor-friendly environment for participants, including government officials, development partners, business leaders and other stakeholders expected at the high-profile event.
The operation covers the Asaba–Ibusa Expressway and adjoining areas, with sanitation teams engaged in desilting sand from road surfaces, clearing illegal refuse dumps, sweeping major roads, collecting litter, and evacuating waste to designated government-approved disposal sites.
In furtherance of its environmental sustainability campaign, the Agency also embarked on a public sensitisation exercise at the Koka Interchange, where residents, traders and commuters were enlightened on the importance of proper waste disposal and the collective responsibility of maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
Speaking while monitoring the exercise, the Director-General of DSCTDA, Mr. Patrick Ukah, said the Agency remains committed to providing a clean, safe and aesthetically appealing capital city, particularly as Delta State prepares to receive dignitaries and investors for the economic summit.
Ukah noted that environmental cleanliness reflects the image of the state and reinforces government efforts to position Delta as an attractive destination for investment, tourism and sustainable development.
The Director-General personally supervised the sanitation operations alongside the Agency’s Manager of Administration, Mr. Vincent Okwofadgeke, while the Head of Environment, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, coordinated field activities to ensure strict compliance with established environmental standards.
The public awareness campaign was led by the Agency’s Manager of Corporate Affairs, Ms. Ngozi Peters, who encouraged residents and business operators to support government efforts by keeping their surroundings clean and shunning indiscriminate waste disposal.
Reaffirming its commitment to environmental excellence, the Agency urged residents to sustain good sanitation practices beyond the summit, stressing that a cleaner Asaba requires the active participation of every citizen and remains essential to preserving the beauty, health and environmental integrity of the Delta State capital.
