Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has commiserated with the Anglican Bishop of Oleh Diocese, Rt. Rev’d John Aruakpor, and his family over the passing of their mother, Mama Ruth Aruakpor, describing her death as the conclusion of a remarkable life dedicated to God, family, and community service.

The governor spoke on Saturday during the funeral service held in honour of the late nonagenarian at Saint Michael’s Anglican Church, Emevor, in Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.

Mama Ruth Aruakpor, who passed away on April 15, 2026, at the age of 92, was celebrated for her unwavering Christian faith, commitment to church work, and enduring contributions to the growth of her family and community.

Addressing mourners at the service, Governor Oborevwori acknowledged the emotional pain associated with losing a mother but urged the family to find solace in the impactful and fulfilled life she lived.

He noted that while death brings sorrow, the life and accomplishments of the deceased provide ample reasons for gratitude and celebration.

“We are here not only to mourn but also to thank God for a life that was fruitful, impactful, and devoted to the service of God and humanity. A mother’s place in the life of her children can never be replaced, regardless of age, but we must remain grateful for the legacy she left behind,” the governor said.

Oborevwori stressed that the true measure of a successful life is not determined by longevity alone but by the positive influence and enduring values a person leaves behind.

According to him, the late matriarch’s legacy is evident in the lives of her children, particularly in their accomplishments and commitment to faith and service.

He drew inspiration from 2 Timothy 4:7, stating that Mama Aruakpor’s life reflected the Apostle Paul’s declaration of having fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith.

The governor described her as a woman whose devotion to God, dedication to family, and exemplary character would continue to inspire generations to come.

He encouraged the bereaved family and other mourners to take comfort in God’s promises and celebrate the lasting impact of her life rather than dwell solely on the pain of her departure.

Oborevwori extended his heartfelt condolences to the Aruakpor family and prayed for divine comfort, strength, and guidance for the children, grandchildren, and loved ones she left behind.

He also urged them to preserve and uphold the values, virtues, and faith for which their mother was widely known and respected.

Delivering the sermon titled, “Christ Is Coming Quickly,” the Archbishop of the Bendel Ecclesiastical Province of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev’d Cyril Odutemu, called on Christians to remain steadfast in their faith and live lives worthy of God’s calling.

Preaching from Revelation 22:12–13, Archbishop Odutemu reminded the congregation that the second coming of Jesus Christ is certain and urged believers to remain spiritually prepared at all times.

He emphasized that Christ would return to reward every individual according to their deeds, stressing the importance of faithful service, integrity, and love for others.

The Archbishop noted that material possessions and earthly accomplishments are temporary, while a genuine relationship with God carries eternal value.

He therefore encouraged Christians to focus on eternal priorities, remain faithful in their walk with God, and live in constant readiness for the Lord’s return.
