Members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), State Information Chapel, alongside supporters under the United Voice for Delta NUJ, have thrown their weight behind Comrade Kenneth Obieh’s bid for the chairmanship of the Delta State NUJ Council.
The group demonstrated its support on Monday, August 24, 2026, with the purchase of Obieh’s nomination form for the October 2026 Delta State NUJ Council elections.
The form was purchased at the Delta State NUJ Press Centre and received from the Secretary of the NUJ Credentials Committee, Comrade Abel Johngold.
The development, according to members of the group, reflects their confidence in Obieh’s leadership experience and capacity to provide effective direction for the council.
Obieh, who has served for six years as Chairman of the State Information Chapel, was commended for his contributions to peace, unity, stability and purposeful leadership within the chapel.
Members described his leadership record as tested and proven, stressing that his experience and understanding of the challenges confronting journalists make him a strong candidate for the NUJ State Council chairmanship.
Responding to the gesture, Obieh expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in him, saying the support had further strengthened his resolve to serve with humility and commitment.
He pledged to work towards restoring the integrity of the Delta State NUJ Council and promised to operate an open-door administration that would protect the collective interests and welfare of journalists across the state.
Obieh also committed himself to transparency, accountability, honesty and probity, while assuring journalists that their welfare would remain a central priority of his administration if elected.
The concerned members of the State Information Chapel and the United Voice for Delta NUJ 2026 subsequently appealed to delegates and members of the union to support Obieh, describing him as an aspirant whose experience, character and leadership record have earned the confidence of his colleagues.
