The family of Diokpa Nwajei of Ogbeidibo Quarters, Issele-Uku, Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, has announced plans to bury its matriarch, late Mama Obiajulu Nwajei, who died at the age of 90.
According to the family’s burial programme, activities will commence with a service of songs on Sunday, December 27, 2026, at the Issele Baptist Church, Ogbe-Ofu, Issele-Uku.
The funeral service and lying-in-state will be held at the family compound in Ogbeidibo Quarters on Monday, December 28, 2026, after which the reception will take place at the Catholic Cathedral event ground.
The family will round off the burial ceremonies with an outing service and family thanksgiving scheduled for January 3, 2027.
Beyond the ceremonies, the family described the late Mama Nwajei as a woman whose life was defined by faith, compassion and generosity.
She was remembered as a devout Christian, loving mother and community-minded woman who extended her care beyond her immediate family to many people who crossed her path.
Those who knew her recalled her willingness to feed and support other people’s children, as well as her readiness to assist women in need with whatever she could afford.
Her generosity, the family noted, was not limited by ethnic, social or religious differences.
She was particularly remembered for the warmth with which she accommodated Hausa families who lived with her, treating them and their children as members of the wider community.
Her life, according to those close to her, reflected the traditional virtues associated with the titles Ezinne and Nne Diogor, a woman of good character, compassion and service to others.
For many residents of Issele-Uku and those who grew up alongside her children, Mama Nwajei’s passing marks the end of an era and the loss of a woman whose kindness left lasting memories.
The family has therefore invited relatives, friends, community leaders, well-wishers and other members of the public, including those returning from abroad for the Yuletide season, to join them in honouring the life and legacy of their beloved matriarch.
