As political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections, members of the Ikpokpo Political Family from across Delta South Senatorial District have resolved to mobilise grassroots support for all candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The resolution was reached on Wednesday during the second strategic meeting of the political group held at the Uro-Irri country home of its Convener, Sir Itiako Malik Ikpokpo.
Addressing members, Ikpokpo said the meeting was convened to provide an avenue for frank discussions, review political developments, address concerns raised by members, and chart a common course ahead of the next general elections.
He admitted that his withdrawal from the APC Delta South Senatorial primary election was a difficult experience but said he had moved beyond the setback in the interest of the party.
According to him, his commitment remains firmly with the APC, adding that he would work with other stakeholders to secure overwhelming victories for the party and its candidates in 2027.
The former Director-General of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) and Managing Director of Dunamis Icon Limited described the APC as Nigeria’s strongest political platform, expressing confidence in President Bola Tinubu’s leadership and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s performance in Delta State.
Drawing from his experience as Chairman of Isoko South Local Government between 2014 and 2021, Ikpokpo said local governments faced significant financial constraints during that period, noting that the current administration had introduced reforms that improved funding for states and local councils.
He also commended President Tinubu’s efforts at addressing national security challenges, particularly his support for state policing, which he described as a bold policy initiative capable of strengthening grassroots security.
While acknowledging that governance challenges still exist, Ikpokpo maintained that the country was making steady progress under the current administration and expressed optimism about Nigeria’s future.
Speaking on Governor Oborevwori’s administration, he praised the governor’s infrastructure drive and described his leadership style as inclusive and consultative.
Ikpokpo said the governor had continued to demonstrate commitment to good governance through developmental projects and sustained engagement with critical stakeholders, which he said had helped strengthen unity within the party.
He appealed to members of the political family to set aside personal grievances and remain united, stressing that cohesion within the APC would be crucial to the party’s success in the 2027 elections.
At the end of the meeting, members unanimously resolved to intensify mobilisation across wards and polling units in Delta South Senatorial District in support of President Bola Tinubu, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and all APC candidates in the 2027 general elections.
The meeting was attended by coordinators from the eight local government areas that make up Delta South Senatorial District, as well as members of the Ikpokpo Political Family from Isoko South and Isoko North Local Government Areas.
