…Vows to sustain God-Fearing leadership
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has attributed the significant developmental strides recorded in the state over the last three years to the cordial and productive relationship between the Executive and Legislative arms of government.
The governor stated this on Sunday at the Third Anniversary Thanksgiving Service of the Eighth Delta State House of Assembly held at the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Unity Model Parish, Asaba.
According to Oborevwori, the peace, stability and progress being witnessed across Delta State are the direct outcomes of the strong collaboration, mutual respect and shared commitment between the two arms of government.
He commended the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, and members of the Assembly for their dedication to service, describing them as focused, disciplined and committed partners in governance.
The governor noted that the Legislature’s constructive engagement and support had enhanced policy implementation and accelerated the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
He assured that his administration would continue to uphold democratic principles by respecting the constitutional responsibilities of the Legislature while providing leadership guided by the fear of God.
Oborevwori also lauded the Assembly for sustaining the annual tradition of thanksgiving, describing it as a worthy acknowledgement of God’s grace, protection and guidance in governance.
Emphasising the need for divine direction in public service, the governor urged political office holders and citizens alike to continue seeking God’s wisdom through prayer.
Drawing inspiration from Proverbs 3:5-6, he said faith in God had remained the foundation of his administration’s achievements and encouraged lawmakers to continue placing God at the centre of their activities.
The governor further charged legislators to strengthen communication between government and the grassroots by effectively projecting policies, programmes and achievements to their constituents.
He described lawmakers as critical bridges between government and the people, stressing that regular constituency engagements, stakeholder consultations and town hall meetings remain vital tools for promoting public understanding of government initiatives and identifying community needs.
Oborevwori stated that his administration’s inclusive budgeting framework ensures equitable distribution of development projects across the state, while also providing legislators with opportunities to contribute to identifying priority projects within their constituencies.
He urged members of the Assembly to sustain their support for initiatives aimed at fostering balanced and inclusive development throughout Delta State.
The governor also expressed appreciation to former Governors Chief James Ibori and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, alongside other political leaders, for their support and presence at the event, describing their encouragement as invaluable to the growth and stability of the state.
Earlier, Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, said the thanksgiving service was organised to appreciate God for His faithfulness since the inauguration of the Eighth Assembly on June 13, 2023.
Guwor noted that the Assembly’s accomplishments over the past three years were made possible through divine grace, unity and wisdom among members.
He said the Legislature had remained steadfast in discharging its constitutional responsibilities through effective lawmaking, oversight functions and stakeholder engagement, resulting in the passage of several laws and resolutions designed to promote good governance, economic development and citizens’ welfare.
The Speaker also praised the harmonious relationship among the Executive, Legislature and Judiciary, describing it as a key driver of Delta State’s stability and development.
He specifically commended Governor Oborevwori for his commitment to infrastructural development and support for the Legislature, noting that the partnership between both arms of government had yielded tangible benefits for the people.
In a sermon titled “Wisdom for Excellent Service,” the Pastor-in-Charge of RCCG Region 34, Asaba, Pastor John Oyomah, stressed that leadership positions are ordained by God and manifest according to divine timing.
Speaking from Ecclesiastes 9:11 and Psalm 102:13, the cleric said success in leadership is determined not merely by human ability, education or strength, but by God’s favour and purpose.
He congratulated Governor Oborevwori and other public office holders for what he described as the grace of God upon their administration and commended the governor for ongoing infrastructural projects across the state, particularly in the area of road construction.
According to him, the achievements being recorded by the administration are clear indications of divine favour and wisdom in governance.
The event featured the symbolic cutting of the Third Anniversary Thanksgiving Cake.
Dignitaries at the service included the Wife of the Governor, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori; Wife of the Deputy Governor, Lady Catherine Onyeme; Bayelsa State Deputy Governor, Hon. Peter Akpe; former Governors Chief James Ibori and Senator Ifeanyi Okowa; former Deputy Governor, Deacon Kingsley Otuaro; APC State Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka; Senators Joel-Onowakpo Thomas and Ede Dafinone; members of the National Assembly, senior government officials, traditional rulers and other prominent stakeholders.
