Executive Assistant to the Governor of Delta State on Media, Dr. Nelson Egware, has been elected Chairman of the Emevor Progress Union (EPU), Asaba branch, emerging unchallenged at the Union’s April general meeting.
The election, which produced a full complement of executives, saw Mr. Joseph Awoh elected Vice Chairman, Simeon Ebewore as Secretary, and Doris Ogheneruemu as Assistant Secretary.
Also elected were Chris-Mark Erukaye as Financial Secretary and Mrs. Beatrice Agboro, who retained her position as Treasurer. Mr. Oghoghome Ukpedor was elected Publicity Secretary, while Awoh Lucky and Samson Adaighofua emerged as Provost 1 and Provost 2 respectively.
Dr. Egware succeeds Professor Sunny Ekakitie, who led the branch for over three years. In his valedictory remarks, Prof. Ekakitie expressed gratitude to members for their support, noting that the Union witnessed notable progress during his tenure.
He charged the new leadership to build on existing gains and remain focused on fostering unity, peace, and development within the Emevor community.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Egware appreciated members for the trust placed in him and the executive team, pledging a responsive and inclusive leadership.
He called for sustained cooperation from members to enable the Union achieve its mandate.
He further encouraged Emevor indigenes residing in Asaba and surrounding areas to actively engage in the Union’s programmes, noting that meetings are held every third Sunday of the month at the residence of Sir Simeon Ukpedor, located at 12 Ochokwu Street, off Okpanam Road, by Globus Bank, Asaba, at 4 p.m.
The meeting culminated in the formal transfer of leadership to the newly elected executive council.
