Health workers in Delta State have declared their support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Sheriff Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 general elections, attributing their endorsement to what they described as notable interventions in healthcare development, improved working conditions and workers’ welfare.
The endorsement was announced during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Asaba, the state capital, where participants reviewed developments in the health sector, discussed government policies and highlighted the need to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
Speaking at the gathering, the Delta State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme, said the health workers’ support for Governor Oborevwori’s second-term ambition was driven by the administration’s contributions to the development of the state’s healthcare system.
He urged health professionals to remain committed to their duties and sustain their support for government initiatives aimed at improving healthcare services and the general well-being of residents.
Also addressing the participants, the Director of Protocol, Government House, Chief Sunday Onoriode, commended health workers for their dedication, commitment and sacrifices in providing essential medical services to residents.
Onoriode encouraged the workers to extend their support for Tinubu and Oborevwori to their respective communities by mobilising grassroots backing for both leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
He described the endorsement as a demonstration of appreciation for what he said were the contributions of the two administrations to governance, infrastructure development and the welfare of citizens.
The government official further expressed optimism that the Oborevwori administration would sustain its development agenda under the MORE Agenda, noting that its programmes were designed to improve the living standards of Deltans.
In separate remarks, the Chairman of the Delta State Hospitals Management Board, Dr. Paul Oweh, and other stakeholders also declared support for the governor’s re-election, citing government interventions they said had enhanced the working environment for healthcare professionals and improved access to medical services.
Beyond the political endorsements, the meeting also featured a health awareness session on Ebola Virus Disease (EVD), during which the Delta State Epidemiologist, Dr. Mildred Okowa-Igumbor, called on residents to remain vigilant and observe recommended preventive measures.
Okowa-Igumbor confirmed that no case of Ebola had been recorded in Delta State, assuring residents that there was no immediate cause for alarm.
She, however, emphasised the importance of continuous public sensitisation, prompt reporting of suspected cases and strict compliance with established public health guidelines to prevent possible outbreaks.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of an Award of Excellence to Governor Oborevwori by the Delta State chapter of the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives in recognition of his administration’s contributions to the health sector.
The gathering attracted key government officials, healthcare administrators and professionals, providing an opportunity to assess progress in healthcare delivery, recognise government interventions and identify strategies for improving service delivery.
The political endorsement also positioned the health workers among groups already expressing support for the leadership ambitions of Tinubu and Oborevwori ahead of the 2027 general elections.
