The Global Initiative Support Group (GISG) for Sheriff 2027 has inaugurated its coordinators and canvassers across the 25 local government areas of Delta State, signalling the commencement of an expanded grassroots mobilisation campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group, at its inauguration ceremony held in Ughelli on Friday, charged its newly appointed officials to intensify efforts towards securing the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The event attracted APC leaders, political stakeholders, women and youth representatives, members of the organisation from across Delta State, as well as representatives of its diaspora chapter.
Performing the inauguration on behalf of the Delta State APC Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, the Delta South Senatorial Chairman, Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba, applauded the group’s convener, Olorogun Festus Ahon, Chairman, Chief Josiah Ntekume, and other members for building a political support network with structures across the state and among Deltans in the diaspora.
Amgbaduba described the organisation’s statewide presence as a demonstration of its capacity to drive effective grassroots mobilisation, noting that its spread across the 25 local government areas provided a strong platform for political engagement ahead of the elections.
He attributed the growing support for the group to what he described as the developmental strides of the Oborevwori administration, particularly in infrastructure, healthcare, education and other critical sectors.
According to him, ongoing road construction projects, improvements in public institutions and investments in social infrastructure have contributed to improving the quality of life in several communities across the state.
He also highlighted the governor’s approval of a 13th-month salary for civil servants as an indication of the administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare.
The APC leader, however, urged the coordinators and canvassers not to restrict their mobilisation activities to the governor’s re-election campaign but to extend their support to President Tinubu, senators, members of the House of Representatives and candidates seeking election into the Delta State House of Assembly.
He emphasised the importance of securing victory for the party across all elective positions, urging members to take the campaign to their respective communities through sustained engagement at senatorial, local government, ward and polling-unit levels.
Amgbaduba further advised the newly inaugurated officials to remain focused, avoid distractions from opposition activities and work collectively towards achieving the party’s electoral objectives in 2027.
In his remarks, the convener of GISG and Chief Press Secretary to Governor Oborevwori, Olorogun Festus Ahon, explained that the initiative was established by friends and supporters drawn from different parts of the world to galvanise support for the governor’s re-election and the success of other APC candidates.
Ahon described the group’s mandate as a grassroots-driven assignment, urging members to prioritise direct voter engagement through door-to-door campaigns and community-based mobilisation.
He challenged the coordinators and canvassers to move beyond conventional political gatherings and establish meaningful contact with residents across wards and polling units.
The Chief Press Secretary reaffirmed the group’s commitment to mobilising support for Tinubu, Oborevwori and all APC candidates, expressing confidence in the party’s ambition to secure a five-over-five victory in the 2027 general elections.
He maintained that the policies and ongoing projects of the Oborevwori administration in education, healthcare, infrastructure and other sectors offered a strong foundation for the group’s political mobilisation efforts.
Earlier, the chairman of GISG, Chief Josiah Ntekume, described the inauguration as a significant milestone in the organisation’s determination to establish a formidable support network across Delta State.
Ntekume urged the newly inaugurated coordinators and canvassers to demonstrate unity, commitment and dedication in taking the group’s message to every ward and polling unit.
He also acknowledged the contributions of APC leaders, members and supporters, particularly those in the diaspora, towards building the organisation, expressing optimism that the inauguration would strengthen its capacity to deliver on its mandate.
Among the dignitaries present were the APC State Organising Secretary, Hon. Emmanuel Egbabor; Hon. Abel Oshevire; Comrade Ologe Elijah; and the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Media, Dr Nelson Egware, alongside other party leaders and political stakeholders.
