Governor Sheriff Oborevwori will on Wednesday host a major security summit aimed at forging a united front against rising security threats and strengthening the state’s security architecture through broad-based stakeholder collaboration.

The Delta State Government disclosed this in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, announcing that the Delta State Security Summit 2026 will hold on June 17 at the Unity Hall, Government House, Asaba, beginning at 10:00 a.m.

With the theme, “Security: A Collective Responsibility,” the summit is expected to bring together critical stakeholders from across the state to deliberate on practical measures for safeguarding lives and property while enhancing peace and public safety.

According to the statement, participants will include heads of security agencies, representatives of the Armed Forces, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), local government chairmen, traditional rulers, religious leaders, Presidents-General of communities, ethnic and community youth leaders, civil society groups, transport unions, and market women associations.

Dr. Emu said the summit reflects the Oborevwori administration’s determination to deepen stakeholder engagement in tackling security challenges and building a safer environment for residents and investors.

He stressed that effective security management cannot be left to government and security agencies alone, noting that community leaders, institutions and citizens all have critical roles to play in preventing crime and maintaining public order.

The SSG urged all invited stakeholders to participate actively and contribute ideas that would strengthen intelligence gathering, improve community policing efforts and enhance cooperation among security actors.

He added that the summit would provide a platform for reviewing existing security strategies, addressing emerging threats and developing a coordinated response framework for the state.

The gathering is expected to reinforce ongoing efforts by security agencies and grassroots organisations to combat criminality, curb insecurity and promote lasting peace across Delta State.

Observers say the summit comes at a crucial time, as governments and security stakeholders nationwide intensify efforts to counter terrorism, kidnapping, cult-related violence and other threats to public safety through greater collaboration and information sharing.
