The Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh breakthroughs in its ongoing operations against violent crime and illicit drug trafficking, with the arrest of two suspected armed robbers and the recovery of a large quantity of substances believed to be illicit drugs.
The arrests and recovery were made in separate intelligence-led operations carried out by operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad (CAVS) in different parts of the state.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives of the Command Anti-Vice Squad, Ughelli, working in collaboration with members of the Ughelli Vigilante Group, arrested two suspected armed robbers linked to a string of robbery incidents in Ughelli and surrounding communities.
Edafe said the operation followed credible intelligence received by the police on June 14, 2026.
Acting on the information, the operatives stormed the Okorodafe area of Ughelli at about 4:30 p.m. and arrested a suspect identified as Moses Francis, 29.
During preliminary investigations, the suspect allegedly confessed to participating in several robbery operations, including an incident that occurred along Aro Street, Ughelli, in April this year.
The suspect subsequently led investigators to a hideout within the town where another suspected gang member, Cosmos Erueseke, 26, was apprehended at about 5:40 p.m. on the same day.
Police said both suspects are currently in custody while efforts are underway to apprehend other members of the gang and recover firearms and other items allegedly used in their criminal activities.
In a separate operation, operatives deployed on stop-and-search duty along the Ozoro/Oleh Expressway intercepted a Toyota Sienna vehicle with registration number FST 242 YK at about 4:00 a.m. on June 14.
According to the command, while the vehicle was being searched, the driver reportedly abandoned it and fled into a nearby bush.
Although officers immediately pursued the suspect, he managed to evade arrest.
A subsequent search of the abandoned vehicle led to the recovery of a large quantity of substances suspected to be illicit drugs, including Codeine, Tramadol, Swinol, Man G and Vega.
The recovered exhibits have been taken into police custody, while investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the fleeing suspect.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their dedication, professionalism and resilience in the discharge of their duties.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to dismantling criminal networks, combating drug-related offences and ensuring the safety of residents across the state.
The police command urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that would assist security agencies in tackling crime and maintaining law and order in Delta State
