The Nigeria Police Force has ordered the dismissal and prosecution of officers implicated in the fatal shooting incident that occurred on April 26, 2026, in Effurun, Delta State, which led to the death of Mene Ogidi.

In an official update issued on April 29, the Force confirmed that all officers connected to the incident were earlier withdrawn from the Delta State Command and redeployed to Force Headquarters, Abuja, on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, for expedited disciplinary proceedings.

According to the statement, the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), after concluding its investigation, found that the principal officer involved, ASP Nuhu Usman, acted in clear violation of Force Order 237 and other regulations guiding the use of firearms.

The Committee determined that the officer’s conduct was unlawful and unprofessional, describing it as a serious breach of his duty to protect life and uphold the law.

Following these findings, the FDC recommended the immediate dismissal of ASP Usman alongside other culpable officers.

The Inspector-General has approved the recommendations and forwarded them to the Police Service Commission for ratification in line with due process.

The Force further disclosed that upon completion of administrative procedures, the affected officers will be handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution over their roles in the incident.

Reaffirming the Force’s position, the IGP emphasized a zero-tolerance policy on extrajudicial actions and abuse of power, stressing that no officer has the right to take life outside the provisions of the law.

He also extended condolences to the family of the deceased, assuring them that justice will be pursued transparently to reinforce public confidence and accountability within the Force.

The Police urged members of the public to remain calm and law-abiding as efforts continue to ensure justice and uphold professional standards across the institution.
