A resident has been killed while two kidnapped victims were rescued after suspected terrorists attacked Aboki Community in Kaiama Local Government Area of Kwara State.
According to SaharaReporters, the attack occurred on Tuesday when heavily armed assailants invaded the community, throwing residents into panic.
Sources familiar with the incident said the attackers killed an unidentified resident before abducting two others during the invasion.
However, security operatives, working in collaboration with local vigilante groups, reportedly responded swiftly after receiving distress information and launched a pursuit of the fleeing gunmen.
The combined security team was said to have engaged the attackers, forcing them to abandon the kidnapped victims before escaping into nearby bushes.
A source quoted by SaharaReporters said the rescued victims regained their freedom unharmed, while security agencies have intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
The latest attack has left residents of Aboki Community in mourning and renewed concerns over the growing wave of insecurity affecting Kaiama Local Government Area and other parts of Kwara State.
The development comes amid fresh security concerns in neighbouring Babanla Community in Ifelodun Local Government Area, where residents have continued to raise alarm over persistent attacks by armed gangs.
According to SaharaReporters, residents alleged that influential individuals have discouraged them from speaking publicly about the worsening insecurity, claiming that a notorious bandit leader is based in the area.
The report stated that another attack occurred in Babanla on Monday, during which one resident was killed and another abducted.
Residents lamented that repeated attacks have turned the community into a hotspot for criminal activities, urging security agencies to intensify efforts to restore peace and protect lives and property.
