The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Zamfara State Chapter, has called on the Federal Government and the Zamfara State Government to take decisive action against banditry following a deadly attack on Kasuwar Daji in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area.
Gunmen reportedly invaded the community on Friday, killing several residents, injuring others, and abducting an unspecified number of people.
In a statement signed by the party’s State Publicity Secretary, Kasim Almustapha Kayatawa, the NDC described the attack as tragic and expressed deep sympathy with the victims and their families.
The party’s State Chairman, Alhaji Surajo Garba Mai Katako, said the latest assault highlights the worsening security situation in Zamfara, particularly in border communities where residents continue to live under constant fear of attacks.
He condemned the killings, injuries and abductions, stressing that the continued loss of innocent lives is unacceptable and requires immediate government intervention.
According to the NDC, authorities must move beyond rhetoric by adopting stronger security measures to halt the wave of banditry across the state.
The party urged the Zamfara State Government to strengthen security patrols, improve intelligence gathering and provide greater operational support to local vigilante groups, especially in Kaura Namoda and other vulnerable border communities.
It also appealed to the Federal Government and security agencies to deploy additional security personnel and modern operational equipment to Zamfara to confront criminal elements and restore peace.
The NDC further called on traditional rulers, community leaders and residents to cooperate with security agencies by providing timely and credible intelligence capable of preventing future attacks.
Reaffirming that safeguarding lives and property remains the constitutional responsibility of government, the party said citizens should be able to farm, conduct business and live without fear of violence or abduction.
Mai Katako extended condolences to the bereaved families, the people of Kasuwar Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area and the Zamfara State Government. He also prayed for the peaceful repose of those killed, speedy recovery for the injured and the safe return of all kidnapped victims.
The NDC pledged its continued support for victims and reiterated its commitment to advocating for peace, justice and responsive governance across the state.
Kaura Namoda, one of Zamfara’s border local government areas, has experienced recurring attacks by armed groups in recent years, a situation that has forced many farmers off their farmlands and disrupted commercial activities in several communities.
