The race for the Delta North Senatorial District seat in the 2027 general elections received a significant boost on Sunday as 56 immediate past All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward Chairmen publicly declared their support for former Delta State Governor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa.
The endorsement came during a strategic meeting at Okowa’s residence in Asaba, where the former ward chairmen pledged to mobilise support for his senatorial ambition and work for the electoral success of the APC across Delta North.
Leading the delegation, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, Comrade Ossai J. Ossai, said the former ward chairmen remained committed members of the APC and were ready to deploy their grassroots structures to strengthen the party ahead of the 2027 polls.
He said the group would embark on an extensive mobilisation and reconciliation campaign aimed at reuniting party members and expanding the APC’s support base across the nine local government areas of Delta North.
“We are fully committed to Senator Okowa’s aspiration and to the success of the APC. We will engage party faithful at the grassroots, reconcile aggrieved members and ensure that no one is left behind as we prepare for victory in 2027,” Ossai said.
He stressed that unity, inclusiveness and effective grassroots mobilisation would be decisive factors in securing victory for the party during the general elections.
Some members of the delegation also urged the party leadership to promote greater inclusion and recognise the contributions of former ward executives, saying such measures would further strengthen the APC ahead of the polls.
Responding, Senator Okowa thanked the delegation for what he described as a strong demonstration of loyalty and confidence in his leadership.
The former governor assured them that the APC would continue to pursue unity and inclusiveness, urging members to remain focused on building a stronger party capable of winning future elections.
The visit is widely seen as another indication that political alignments within Delta North are beginning to take shape as preparations for the 2027 general elections gather momentum.
