The race for the Delta North Senatorial District seat in the 2027 elections is gradually assuming a more competitive outlook, with Labour Party candidate Rex Biose attracting attention as he campaigns on a message of political change and renewed representation for the Anioma people.
Biose, a private-sector practitioner and political aspirant, has positioned his candidacy around what he describes as the need to break from the established political order and pursue a different approach to governance and representation.
In his public engagements, the Labour Party candidate has criticised what he considers years of political injustice and inadequate representation of the Anioma people, promising to bring a fresh perspective to the Senate if elected.
His emergence comes amid increasing political activity among candidates seeking the Delta North ticket, with public discussions over the records, experience and previous political roles of some of the contenders.
The exchanges have also generated debate among voters and political observers over whether the 2027 contest should focus more on the candidates’ policy proposals and their plans for addressing the challenges confronting the senatorial district.
For some residents, issues such as unemployment, economic hardship, infrastructure deficits and limited opportunities for young people remain more pressing than disagreements over the political records of individual contenders.
It is within this environment that Biose is seeking to present himself as an alternative voice.
Supporters of his candidacy point to his private-sector background and political antecedents as factors that, in their view, distinguish him from politicians whose careers have largely been built within the traditional political establishment.
One supporter described Biose as part of what he called a “new breed of politician,” arguing that his message could appeal to voters looking for a different style of representation.
“It is a victory in advance for Rex Biose, who has presented himself as a new breed of politician, desired and clamoured for by Nigerian citizens,” the supporter said.
The respondent further described Biose as a “true Obidient,” citing his political antecedents and alignment with the political movement associated with Peter Obi.
He added that the electorate needed politicians committed to what he described as servant leadership rather than individuals whose political influence was built primarily around wealth and long-standing establishment connections.
However, such assessments remain the views of Biose’s supporters, while other candidates in the race are expected to present their own records, programmes and arguments to the electorate.
With the 2027 election still ahead, the central question will be how the various candidates translate their campaign messages into sustained engagement with voters across the nine local government areas of Delta North.
For Biose, the challenge will be to convert the attention surrounding his candidacy into broader voter support as the senatorial contest progresses.
