The Edo State House of Assembly (EDHA) has officially confirmed Dr. Washington Osa Osifo as a commissioner-designate following his approval by lawmakers during plenary on Thursday.

The confirmation took place at the Assembly Complex in Benin City after the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Blessing Agbebaku, presented a correspondence from Governor Monday Okpebholo requesting legislative approval for Dr. Osifo’s appointment.

Addressing lawmakers before the confirmation, Agbebaku reminded members that the nominee had previously undergone the mandatory screening process, making him eligible for final consideration by the House.

The Speaker further informed the Assembly that another commissioner nominee on the governor’s list is Mr. Kayode Jeff, whose nomination is also before the House.

Agbebaku described Dr. Osifo as a competent and intellectually sound individual, noting that his nomination was based on merit, capacity, and proven ability to serve the state effectively.

The motion for Dr. Osifo’s confirmation was moved by the House Majority Leader, Hon. Dr. Richard Osaro Edosa, and was seconded by Hon. Osamwonyi Uhunoma Kycee, who represents Uhunmwode Constituency. The motion received the unanimous support of members present.

In a related development, the Assembly also advanced three key bills to the second reading stage. The proposed legislations focus on land administration, fire service regulations, and the establishment of a rural access roads authority.

Speaking on recent political developments within the All Progressives Congress (APC), Speaker Agbebaku urged members to remain focused and embrace political outcomes with maturity and philosophical calmness.

The Speaker also expressed concern over the recent abduction incident at the Vegetable Market, condemning the act and calling on residents of Edo State to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies in combating crime.

The House subsequently adjourned plenary until Monday next week.
