The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has officially confirmed former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, as the party’s vice-presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, pairing him with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on what the party described as a “unity and rescue ticket.”

The announcement was made on Monday in a statement issued by the ADC National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, following consultations with party leaders, coalition partners, youth and women stakeholders, and representatives from the country’s geopolitical zones.

According to the party, Amaechi’s selection was influenced by his performance in the ADC presidential primaries, where he emerged as runner-up, as well as his extensive experience in public service spanning both legislative and executive positions.

The ADC said Amaechi’s political pedigree, which includes serving as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation, would complement Atiku’s leadership and strengthen the party’s bid to provide what it termed a credible alternative for Nigerians ahead of the 2027 polls.

The party further described the Atiku-Amaechi ticket as a strategic alliance designed to unite diverse political interests and regional blocs while addressing key national challenges, including economic recovery, security, job creation, and national cohesion.

In the statement, Abdullahi said the combination of Atiku and Amaechi brings together two experienced political figures with broad national appeal and governance experience capable of repositioning the country for sustainable growth and development.

The ADC also noted that Amaechi’s influence across Southern Nigeria, particularly the South-South region, alongside his reputation as a reform-oriented administrator, would significantly boost the party’s electoral prospects.

The party called on its members, coalition partners, civil society groups, youth organisations, women leaders, and other stakeholders to rally behind the ticket as preparations for the 2027 presidential election gather momentum.
