A 60-year-old man has died under mysterious circumstances after checking into a hotel in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, with a 20-year-old woman.
The incident, now under police investigation, occurred shortly after the man reportedly requested a meal before suddenly developing a medical emergency.
According to the Jigawa State Police Command, officers attached to the Yalwawa Division responded promptly after receiving a distress call and rushed the victim to the General Hospital, Dutse, where doctors confirmed him dead.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Lawan Shiisu Adam, disclosed in a statement that preliminary findings indicated the deceased had lodged at the hotel with the young woman before he began gasping for breath.
During a search of the hotel room, detectives recovered food items, assorted drinks, a substance suspected to be a sexual enhancement drug, and other personal belongings, all of which have been taken for forensic examination as part of the ongoing investigation.
Police said the body of the deceased was later released to his family for burial following their request.
The 20-year-old woman, who was with the deceased at the time of the incident, is currently assisting investigators with information that may help unravel the circumstances surrounding the death.
The police urged members of the public to refrain from speculation, assuring that the investigation would be thorough, professional and impartial before any conclusions are reached.
