Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has approved the removal of Mrs Sonia Ebanehita Omonzane as Executive Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB).
She has been replaced by Hon. Ayewoh Ambrose Oyakhilome, the immediate past Executive Chairman of the Edo State Rural Access Roads Agency (RARA).
The development was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Umar Musa Ikhilor.
According to the statement, Oyakhilome’s appointment is subject to consideration and confirmation by the Edo State House of Assembly.
The governor described the new SUBEB chairman as a dedicated politician and public administrator with a strong commitment to effective leadership.
Okpebholo said Oyakhilome was expected to support policies and initiatives aimed at improving the quality of education and learning outcomes across Edo State.
Before his new appointment, Oyakhilome headed RARA, where he was involved in the administration and implementation of government programmes focused on improving rural roads, connectivity and infrastructure.
The latest change marks another leadership shake-up at SUBEB under the Okpebholo administration.
In May 2025, the governor removed Barrister Onomen Goodness Briggs as chairman of the board and redeployed her to the Board for Technical and Vocational Education (BTVE), while Omonzane was moved from BTVE to SUBEB.
The governor had also earlier removed Dr Paddy Iyamu as SUBEB chairman before appointing him as Commissioner for Education.
