Immediate past Governor of Delta, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, has expressed deep sadness on the passing of his predecessor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, describing the incident as unnerving and devastating.

In a condolence message to the deceased’s wife, Roli Uduaghan and the entire family, Okowa acknowledged that the family, Itsekiri Nation and Delta State had lost a huge resource, with the unfortunate demise of the former governor.

He remarked that the late Uduaghan was a consummate public servant and administrator, a medical doctor, and leader whose visionary leadership he gave to the State would continue to occupy an auspicious space in its history.

According to him, from his time as Commissioner for Health, to Secretary to the State Government, and ultimately as Governor, he served with exceptional passion, commitment, and foresight.

“His peace agenda, infrastructure initiatives, and outstanding commitment to human capital development will
remain a significant part of Delta State’s development trajectory,” Okowa stated.

He urged Mrs Uduaghan and her children not to despair, but be strengthened by faith in God Almighty for the fortitude to contend with “this immense tragedy”.

“On behalf of my family, I condole Her Excellency, Mrs Roli Uduaghan, her children and the entire Uduaghan family on the unfortunate passing of my predecessor, Dr Emmanuel Eweta Uduaghan, at 71.

“He transited when you, Delta State, and indeed, Nigeria, needed him more, especially in the prevailing socio-economic and political circumstances in our nation,” he said, adding that the late former governor would be constantly remembered for his stewardship to the State.

Okowa prayed that his soul would repose peacefully in God’s bosom.
