Former Delta State Governor and Delta North Senatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, has urged Nigerians to embrace nation-building as a collective responsibility.
Okowa made the call in his message to Nigerians on Thursday to mark the country’s 66th Independence Anniversary.
Reflecting on Nigeria’s 66 years as an independent nation, the former governor acknowledged the challenges that have shaped the country’s journey, but said its resilience, diversity and collective hope for a better future remain sources of strength.
According to him, the responsibility of building a prosperous Nigeria cannot be left to a particular generation or section of the country.
He said the nation must work towards creating a society where every generation has the opportunity to thrive, while the sacrifices made today translate into a better future.
In a post on his social media handles, Okowa wrote: “As Nigeria marks her 66th Independence Anniversary, we are reminded that nation-building is a responsibility we all share.
“Our journey has not been without challenges, but our strength lies in our resilience, our diversity and our shared belief in a better Nigeria.
“We must continue to build a nation where every generation has the opportunity to thrive and where the sacrifices we make today secure a better tomorrow.”
Okowa, who is seeking election to the Senate in 2027 to represent Delta North, also called for unity and courage in confronting the challenges ahead.
He said although there was still considerable work to be done, Nigerians could collectively move the country forward by remaining committed to the Nigeria they desire.
“The road ahead requires unity, courage and a commitment to the Nigeria we desire. There is much work to be done, but together, we can move our nation forward.
“Happy Independence Day, Nigeria,” he stated.
The message was accompanied by the hashtags #ForwardTogether and “Maka Ọganihu Nigeria,” which means “For the Progress of Nigeria.
