BREAKING NEWS: Ika Chapel Endorses STAND UP TEAM Ahead Of Delta NUJ Election

The Ika Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council, has endorsed the Comrade Kenneth Onojomena Obieh-led STAND-UP Team ahead of the October 15, 2026, Delta NUJ Council election.

The endorsement was made on Thursday, October 1, 2026, during a campaign visit to members of the chapel, where the leadership and members publicly expressed their support for the team.

The motion for the endorsement of THE STAND UP TEAM was moved by the Secretary of Ika Chapel, Comrade Jonathan Onwukoya, and seconded by the Chapel’s Financial Secretary, Comrade Clinton Nwachukwu.

According to the Secretary, “I Comrade Jonathan Onwukoya, the Secretary of Ika Chapel, hereby move a motion that all the candidates of the STAND UP TEAM are hereby endorsed as all our sole candidates. I so move”.

Cementing the endorsement, the Financial Secretary, said: “I Comrade Clinton Nwachukwu, the Financial Secretary of the most united Chapel of NUJ Delta State Council , Ika Chapel, hereby support the motion that THE STAND UP TEAM has been endorsed by this noble Chapel”.

The development adds to the series of chapel-level endorsements and engagements ahead of the Delta NUJ election, with the STAND-UP Team campaigning on issues including members’ welfare, professional development, accountability, unity and institutional strengthening.

The STAND-UP Team is led by Comrade Kenneth Onojomena Obieh as its chairmanship candidate, with Comrade Patrick Ochie as Vice Chairman, Comrade Felix Ekwu as Secretary, Comrade Josephine Omodior as Assistant Secretary, Comrade Caroline Ubini as Treasurer (unopposed) and Comrade Michael Ilaya as Auditor, also unopposed.

The October 15 election is expected to produce a new leadership for the Delta State Council of the NUJ.

The Ika Chapel endorsement comes barely two weeks to the poll and further highlights the growing activities among chapels and delegates as candidates intensify their engagements across the state.

The STAND-UP Team had earlier said its agenda is anchored on stability, service, elevation and enrichment, with emphasis on welfare, professionalism, transparency, inclusiveness and institutional development.
