…Unveils MORE Plus Campaign Theme, Inaugurates 2027 Campaign Council
By Reen Chidi
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has urged members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Campaign Council to intensify grassroots mobilisation and take the message of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to voters across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Oborevwori gave the charge on Thursday in Asaba during the inauguration of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, where he unveiled **“MORE Plus”** as the theme of his re-election campaign.
The governor described membership of the council as a responsibility that demands commitment, unity, discipline and collective action, urging party leaders and members to work towards securing victory for Tinubu, himself and other APC candidates in the forthcoming elections.
He stressed that effective political engagement must extend beyond rallies and public gatherings to direct interactions with the electorate, particularly market women, youths, workers, farmers, traders and other residents at the grassroots.
According to him, campaign coordinators at the local government and ward levels must strengthen their structures, collaborate with support groups and ensure that the party’s message reaches every polling unit across Delta State.
Oborevwori urged members of the council to base their campaigns on the performance and policies of the APC-led governments at the federal and state levels, citing Tinubu’s policy initiatives and his administration’s M.O.R.E Agenda, which prioritises Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms and Enhanced Peace and Security.
He said the party must effectively communicate its achievements to the electorate, noting that public awareness of government policies and programmes was essential to explaining their intended impact.
“Our achievements must speak for us, but we must also be prepared to explain them convincingly,” the governor said.
He assured Deltans that the campaign season would not derail his administration’s development agenda, promising that ongoing projects and government programmes would continue alongside political activities.
The governor also called on politicians and their supporters to conduct their campaigns peacefully, shun hate speech and avoid actions capable of creating divisions among residents of the state.
Onyeme, Keyamo Make Case For Tinubu’s Policies
Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, commended Oborevwori for aligning Delta State with the Federal Government, urging APC members to build on the political realignment by mobilising support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Onyeme called on party faithful to publicise the Tinubu administration’s initiatives in areas including local government autonomy, education funding, grassroots development, security, electricity and road infrastructure.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, also defended the Federal Government’s economic reforms, arguing that difficult policy decisions were necessary to address longstanding structural challenges in the Nigerian economy.
Keyamo acknowledged the hardship associated with the reforms but maintained that they were designed to tackle underlying economic problems, including the financial burden of fuel subsidies.
Arenyeka, Okowa Urge Strong Grassroots Mobilisation
In his welcome address, Delta APC Chairman, Chief Solomon Arenyeka, said the inauguration of the campaign council demonstrated the party’s preparedness for the 2027 general elections.
He urged members to work in unity, mobilise voters peacefully and communicate the achievements of APC-led administrations to the electorate in order to build support for the party.
Former Delta State Governor and Senator representing Delta North, Ifeanyi Okowa, said the party faced high expectations following the mass defection of political leaders and supporters from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC in April 2025.
Okowa challenged the campaign council to translate the political development into an impressive electoral performance, emphasising the importance of direct voter engagement rather than relying exclusively on rallies and public meetings.
Speaking on behalf of Delta Central Senatorial District, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor expressed satisfaction with the APC’s emergence as the ruling party in Delta State and pledged support for the re-election bids of Tinubu and Oborevwori.
Similarly, former Secretary to the State Government, Comrade Ovuozourie Macaulay, who spoke for Delta South Senatorial District, expressed confidence that the Oborevwori administration’s projects and programmes would feature prominently in the party’s campaign.
Macaulay assured the council that leaders and members of the party in Delta South would work towards securing substantial votes for the APC.
Okotete Sets 75 Per Cent Vote Target For Women
Former APC National Woman Leader and Executive Director of the Nigerian Export-Import Bank, Stella Okotete, called on women across the state to intensify grassroots mobilisation ahead of the elections.
She urged women leaders and supporters to take ownership of the campaign and set a target of at least 75 per cent of the votes for Tinubu and other APC candidates.
Okotete’s appeal underscored the importance of women’s participation in the party’s mobilisation efforts as it prepares for the 2027 electoral contest.
Manager Pledges To Lead Campaign Council
Responding on behalf of the campaign council, its Director-General, Senator James Manager, pledged to work with party leaders, stakeholders and members to coordinate the campaign and pursue the APC’s electoral objectives.
Manager described the assignment as a demanding responsibility requiring cooperation, sustained grassroots engagement and the collective commitment of party members across the state.
The Delta State APC Campaign Council is chaired by Governor Oborevwori, with Senator James Manager serving as Director-General and Mr Chiedu Ebie as Deputy Director-General, alongside other party leaders and stakeholders.
