Senator Joel-Onowakpo Thomas, representing Delta South Senatorial District, has lauded Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, following his recognition with the Christian Icon Award by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Abuja.
The award, presented on Saturday, recognises the governor’s commitment to public service, ethical leadership, integrity and the promotion of Christian values.
Joel-Onowakpo, who chairs the Senate Committee on Local Content, described the honour as a testament to Oborevwori’s leadership qualities, dedication to the welfare of Deltans and commitment to serving the people.
He noted that the recognition highlighted the relevance of moral principles in governance, stressing that public office holders should be assessed by their integrity, humility and the positive impact of their leadership on the lives of citizens.
The senator also commended CAN for acknowledging the governor’s contributions to governance, expressing hope that the honour would encourage him to intensify efforts towards the development of Delta State.
According to him, the recognition should further motivate Oborevwori to sustain his administration’s development programmes under the MORE Agenda, which focuses on Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.
Joel-Onowakpo wished the governor continued wisdom, strength and divine guidance in the discharge of his responsibilities, describing the award as a source of pride to the people of Delta State.
He further called on political leaders and public office holders across the country to embrace honesty, accountability, compassion and selfless service as guiding principles in the discharge of their duties.
