The Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly and Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures in Nigeria, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, has congratulated Comrade Azuka Chiemeka on his re-election as Vice President, South South Zone of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN).
Guwor described Chiemeka’s return to office as a fitting recognition of his years of commitment, professionalism and service to sports journalism and the development of sports in Nigeria.
The Speaker’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nkem Nwaeke.
A sports enthusiast and member of SWAN, Guwor said the outcome of the election reflected the confidence reposed in Chiemeka by members of the association across the South South zone.
He noted that Chiemeka had distinguished himself through sustained contributions to sports journalism, saying his experience and professional accomplishments would remain valuable assets to SWAN.
Guwor said the renewed mandate presented Chiemeka with another opportunity to consolidate on his achievements and contribute meaningfully to the growth and unity of the association.
“Azuka Chiemeka’s re-election is a testament to his hard work, professionalism and unwavering commitment to the growth of sports journalism.
“It is also a recognition of the confidence his colleagues have in his capacity to provide purposeful leadership,” he said.
The Speaker expressed confidence that Chiemeka would deploy his renewed mandate towards strengthening SWAN, improving the welfare of sports writers and promoting greater development of sports journalism across the South South region.
He also congratulated other officials elected at the association’s recently concluded congress, urging them to justify the confidence reposed in them by members.
Guwor wished the newly elected officials a successful tenure, with a call for collective efforts to advance the interests of SWAN and contribute to the development of sports in the country.
Chiemeka, who is Deputy General Manager, News and Current Affairs Department, Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS), Warri, and Head of its Sports Unit, secured another term as Vice President, South South Zone, following the SWAN elections.
