The Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), in partnership with the Okpanam Youth Organisation (OYO), on Saturday intensified the enforcement and monitoring of the monthly environmental sanitation exercise across Okpanam in Oshimili North Local Government Area.
The exercise, coordinated by the Agency’s Head of Environment, Mr. Isaac Nwosu, alongside the President of the Okpanam Youth Organisation, Comdr. Fidelis Okonma, was aimed at promoting a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment for residents.
Officials of the Agency and members of the youth organisation carried out inspections across major roads, streets and residential areas to ensure compliance with the sanitation directive.
Residents and business owners were encouraged to clear refuse, desilt blocked drainage channels and maintain clean surroundings, while defaulters were reminded of their obligation to support environmental cleanliness.
To enhance the exercise, the Agency distributed sanitation equipment, including wheelbarrows, shovels, rakes and hand gloves, to residents and volunteers participating in the cleanup.
Addressing participants, Mr. Nwosu stressed that regular environmental sanitation remains critical to public health, disease prevention and the overall wellbeing of communities. He urged residents to embrace cleanliness as a continuous lifestyle rather than restricting it to the monthly exercise.
He also praised Comdr. Okonma and members of the Okpanam Youth Organisation for their commitment to mobilising residents and supporting the Agency’s sanitation drive, describing community participation as essential to achieving a cleaner and more organised capital territory.
The Agency reiterated its determination to sustain environmental sanitation across the Delta State Capital Territory through sustained public awareness campaigns, stronger collaboration with community stakeholders and consistent enforcement of environmental sanitation regulations.
