The Ethiope East Chapter of the Private Sector Participants (PSP) Association has pledged stronger collaboration with the Delta State Waste Management Board to improve waste collection, evacuation and disposal across the area.
The association made the commitment during a courtesy visit to the Acting Chairman of the Board, Chief Hon. Mrs Ethe Enifome Odunwa, at the Board’s headquarters.
The visit was aimed at strengthening the existing relationship between the Board and PSP operators, with a view to promoting efficient waste management practices and ensuring cleaner, healthier communities in Ethiope East and other parts of Delta State.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Ethiope East PSP Association, Pastor Rufus Adedokun, congratulated Odunwa on her appointment and commended her proactive leadership, particularly the ongoing fumigation of dump sites across the state.
Adedokun described the initiative as a positive step towards improving environmental sanitation and reducing the risks associated with poor waste management.
He assured the Board of the association’s cooperation and commitment to supporting government efforts to maintain a clean environment, while pledging that PSP operators in Ethiope East would continue to comply with the Board’s operational guidelines.
However, he appealed to the Board to address some of the challenges confronting operators in the area, particularly timely access to designated dumpsites and other operational logistics affecting effective service delivery.
In her response, Odunwa expressed appreciation to the association for the visit, describing PSP operators as indispensable stakeholders in the state’s waste management system.
She assured them of the Board’s commitment to strengthening stakeholder engagement, promoting transparency and improving operational conditions to enhance efficiency in waste collection and disposal.
The Acting Chairman reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to the MORE Agenda of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, noting that achieving a cleaner, healthier and more environmentally sustainable Delta State required the collective responsibility of government, waste management operators and residents.
She urged the Ethiope East PSP Association to sustain its commitment to environmental sanitation, discourage indiscriminate dumping of refuse and ensure strict adherence to approved waste collection and disposal practices.
Odunwa stressed that effective waste management depended not only on government interventions but also on the professionalism, cooperation and sense of responsibility demonstrated by operators and members of the public.
The visit ended with a group photograph and a mutual commitment by the Board and the Ethiope East PSP Association to deepen cooperation towards improved waste management and environmental sanitation across the state.
