The Delta State Police Command has recorded another breakthrough in its ongoing crackdown on crime with the recovery of two illegal firearms and the arrest of two suspects during separate intelligence-led operations conducted by operatives of the Ozoro and Agbor Divisions.
The Police Public Relations Officer.(PPRO), SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development on Monday July 28, 2026, in a statement issued in Asaba, the State capital.
According to the Command, the operations, carried out on July 24 and 25, 2026, resulted in the seizure of a Beretta pistol and a cut-to-size single-barrel gun from the suspects.
In the first operation, operatives attached to the Ozoro Division, while on routine township patrol along Alaka Road in Ozoro on July 25, intercepted a 25-year-old suspect, Yakubu Musa, who was found carrying roofing sheets believed to have been stolen.
Police said the suspect failed to give a satisfactory explanation regarding the items in his possession during interrogation, prompting further investigation. A subsequent search of his residence led to the recovery of a cut-to-size single-barrel gun.
The suspect has been taken into custody, while investigations are ongoing.
In a separate operation on July 24, operatives of the Agbor Division, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted 40-year-old Sunday Anaboro, an indigene of Orogun in Ughelli North Local Government Area who resides in Agbor.
A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol concealed inside a sack. He was arrested and remains in police custody pending the conclusion of investigations, after which he will be charged to court.
Commending the officers for their professionalism and vigilance, the Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s determination to rid the state of illegal firearms and other weapons used in criminal activities.
He also appealed to residents to continue supporting the police by providing timely and credible information that would assist security agencies in tackling crime and enhancing public safety across Delta State.
