The Delta State Government has condemned the violent incident that erupted in Effurun on Sunday, describing it as a reprehensible act that has no place in a peaceful and law-abiding society.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, expressed the government’s deep concern over disturbing videos of the attack circulating across social media and other online platforms.
Aniagwu specifically denounced the brutal assault on Mr. Simon Mudi, describing the incident as barbaric, unacceptable and a clear violation of the state’s commitment to peace and public safety.
He stressed that the administration of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori would not tolerate any form of lawlessness, violence or mob action, irrespective of the identities, affiliations or status of those involved.
According to him, the state government has directed all relevant security agencies to immediately identify, apprehend and prosecute every individual connected to the attack, assuring residents that justice would be pursued without fear or favour.
The commissioner reaffirmed the Oborevwori administration’s unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property, maintaining law and order, and ensuring that perpetrators of criminal acts are held fully accountable.
He urged residents to remain calm, law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies by providing credible information that would aid ongoing investigations, assuring that the government remains resolute in preserving peace and protecting every citizen across the state.
