Delta 2027: Peace, Stability In Warri Must Take Precedence Over Political Ambition, Says Mulade

Renowned peace advocate and development strategist, Comrade Mulade Sheriff, PhD, has called for calm, unity, and restraint among residents of Warri and its environs amid rising political tensions following recent developments in Delta State’s political landscape.

Mulade, a candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the recently concluded party primaries, expressed concern over what he described as increasing attempts by some individuals and groups to inflame ethnic sentiments and deepen divisions through provocative statements and actions.

Speaking on the growing tension in Warri Federal Constituency, the Niger Delta activist said political disagreements should not be allowed to undermine the long-standing culture of peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic nationalities that make up the area.

According to him, stakeholders should focus on strengthening unity and building consensus ahead of the 2027 general elections rather than engaging in divisive rhetoric capable of threatening peace and stability in the region.

Mulade stressed that the collective interest of Warri and its people must remain paramount, noting that sustainable peace remains a critical requirement for economic growth, infrastructure development, and job creation for the youth population.

“Peace in Warri and its environs is far more important than any personal political ambition. No aspiration is worth jeopardising the harmony and unity that our people have worked hard to sustain over the years,” he said.

The Ibe-Sorimowei of the ancient oil-rich Gbaramatu Kingdom in Warri South-West Local Government Area commended the Itsekiri, Ijaw, Urhobo, and other ethnic groups in Warri Federal Constituency for their commitment to peaceful coexistence despite recent provocations and attempts to stoke ethnic divisions.

He urged residents, community leaders, political actors, and supporters across party lines to reject hate-driven narratives and embrace dialogue, tolerance, and mutual respect as pathways to lasting peace.

Mulade further appealed to the people of Warri to continue promoting unity and collaborative development efforts while supporting initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure, economic opportunities, and social welfare across the constituency.

The peace ambassador also called on all stakeholders to complement the efforts of the Delta State Government in advancing development programmes capable of improving the quality of life for residents.

He maintained that meaningful development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace, security, and social harmony, warning that conflict and instability often undermine progress and discourage investment.

“As a people, we must place the future of Warri above individual interests. Peace, unity, and development should remain our collective goal as we prepare for the opportunities and challenges ahead,” Mulade stated.
