…Workshop holds August 18–20 at Hotel Benizia, Asaba
The Delta State Strategic Communication Workshop (DELCOM 2026) has strengthened its faculty with the appointment of accomplished communication scholar and media professional, Dr. Abamba Bosede Rita, of Delta State University, Abraka, as an additional trainer for the 7th edition of the annual capacity-building programme.
Dr. Abamba joins Professor Joyce Ogwezi of Dennis Osadebay University, Asaba, and the Chief Trainer, Professor Presley Obukadata, Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Southern Delta University, to deliver a blend of academic excellence, practical communication strategies, leadership development, and contemporary media insights.
According to the State Coordinator of DELCOM and Director-General of the Delta State Bureau for Orientation and Communications, Barrister Wilfred Latimore Oghenesivbe, the faculty members are distinguished academics and communication professionals with proven records in teaching, research, media practice, leadership, and mentorship.
A lecturer in the Department of Mass Communication and Film at Delta State University, Abraka, Dr. Abamba’s expertise covers journalism, political and development communication, digital media, media effects, public affairs reporting, and media ethics.
Her extensive newsroom experience, combined with years of academic teaching and research, positions her to provide participants with practical insights into strategic communication, ethical media practice, digital engagement, crisis communication, strategic messaging, and effective public affairs management.
Oghenesivbe described Professor Ogwezi as a scholar renowned for her outstanding academic contributions, leadership, and mentorship, while noting that Dr. Abamba’s unique combination of professional journalism experience and academic expertise enables her to effectively bridge communication theory with practical application.
Scheduled for August 18–20, 2026, at Hotel Benizia, Asaba, the workshop is themed: “Strategic Communication in a Digital Era: Building Trust and Credibility for Democratic Governance.”
Oghenesivbe said participants would benefit immensely from the combined expertise of the three-member faculty, whose sessions are designed to deepen understanding of strategic communication, strengthen leadership and public engagement skills, and provide practical tools for building public trust, enhancing institutional credibility, and effectively communicating government policies and programmes in the digital age.
He explained that the workshop is designed to sharpen the professional competence of media and communication aides to the Governor, government spokespersons, information and public relations officers attached to senior government officials and ministries, political leaders, as well as social media influencers, bloggers, and government media partners across the state.
The DELCOM State Coordinator commended the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. (Elder) Sheriff Oborevwori, for his sustained commitment to human capacity development through continuous investment in the training and retraining of political appointees and civil servants.
He noted that the Governor’s emphasis on capacity building has continued to strengthen institutional efficiency, improve service delivery, and enhance communication between government and the people.
