BREAKING NEWS: INEC Lists Okowa For Delta North Senate Seat

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the final list of candidates for the 2027 general election, confirming former Delta State Governor, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the Delta North Senatorial District.

The development follows months of political uncertainty over the APC senatorial ticket in Delta North and effectively confirms that the incumbent senator, Ned Nwoko, will not be on the ballot for the district in the 2027 National Assembly election.

The final list, displayed at the INEC office in Asaba on Saturday, showed Okowa as the APC’s standard-bearer for the Delta North Senate seat, bringing to a close the party’s internal contest over the ticket.

Nwoko’s exclusion from the final list comes after he lost the APC senatorial primary, despite subsequent appeals and assurances by the party leadership that complaints arising from the primaries would be reviewed.

Although the APC later reinstated some serving senators across the country following recommendations by its Primary Election Appeal Committee, the review did not alter the outcome in Delta North, where Okowa retained the party’s ticket.

The publication of the final candidate list by INEC formally settles the APC’s candidature for the Delta North Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 general election.

Beyond Delta North, the electoral umpire’s final list also excluded several other notable political figures across the country, including former President Goodluck Jonathan, former Ogun State Governor Gbenga Daniel, former Gombe State Governor Danjuma Goje and Senator Garba Maidoki, reflecting the outcome of party primaries and internal review processes.

With the release of the final list, attention is now expected to shift to campaigns as political parties prepare for the 2027 general election.
