Former Governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has reiterated his readiness to return to the Senate to continue his legacy of purposeful leadership and drive more federal projects to Delta North Senatorial District.
Speaking during a consultation meeting with elders, leaders, and stakeholders from across Ika North East Local Government Area on Wednesday, Okowa said his return to the Red Chamber would be marked by “an indelible legacy that will stand the test of time.”
The former governor, who represented Delta North in the Senate between 2011 and 2015, recalled his record of sponsoring people-oriented bills during his first tenure. They include the National Health Insurance Commission Act Amendment Bill, the Federal Medical Centres Establishment Bills, and several motions that pushed for improved healthcare funding and infrastructure in underserved communities.
Okowa said he was prepared to attract more people-centred federal projects to the district, leveraging his experience as a two-term governor to deepen development across the nine local government areas in Delta North.
“The engagement with stakeholders from the different wards in Ika North East was particularly encouraging. It reflects a strong sense of unity, confidence, and shared purpose,” he said.
He urged party faithful to remain steadfast ahead of the 2027 elections, stressing that unity would be key to victory.
“We are united, prepared, and ready for what lies ahead,” Okowa stated, saying “Unity and shared purpose are the driving forces behind this aspiration. I urge us to ensure that everyone at the ward and unit levels is carried along.”
The former governor also expressed commitment to implementing suggestions raised by stakeholders during the meeting, noting that their input would shape his legislative agenda.
“The message from Ika North East is clear: we are united, prepared, and ready for what lies ahead. I remain grateful for the trust and support of our leaders and people as we move forward together,” he added.
Stakeholders at the meeting commended Okowa for his legacies as governor, including the Stronger Delta vision, massive road infrastructure, the three new universities, and investments in healthcare through the Delta State Contributory Health Commission.
