AGBOR, DELTA STATE — The Delta State Police Command has arrested six suspects and recovered quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol and other suspected illicit substances in a raid on a suspected drug distribution outlet in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Department of Operations during a routine patrol along Alegwe Street, off Owa Road, followed credible intelligence indicating that a store in the area was allegedly being used for the sale and distribution of illicit drugs.
The suspects arrested were identified as Anabel Haruna, 18; Terhemen Faith, 19; Kaityo Abigail, 23; Iorkee Eunice, 26; and Osomuri Emmanuel, 31. A 15-year-old female juvenile was also arrested, but her identity was withheld in line with the protection afforded minors.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, ANIPR, FCIA, FIPMD, a search of a vehicle linked to the suspects led to the recovery of quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol and other substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
The Command said the suspects and recovered exhibits are currently in custody, while investigation continues to establish the full circumstances surrounding the alleged drug activities.
The operation, according to the Command, is part of intensified efforts being implemented under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, to tackle the distribution of illicit drugs and other criminal activities across Delta State.
Erale warned individuals and groups involved in the sale and distribution of illicit drugs that the Command would continue to identify and dismantle criminal networks operating across the state.
He noted that the proliferation of illicit drugs could fuel violent crime and other forms of criminality, directing police operatives to intensify intelligence gathering, surveillance and enforcement against drug dealers and their networks.
The Commissioner assured residents that the police would not allow Delta State to become a safe haven for illicit drug trafficking or other criminal enterprises.
The Command urged members of the public to continue providing credible information that could assist security agencies in identifying and disrupting criminal activities in their communities.
