The Delta State Police Command has recorded significant operational successes following coordinated intelligence-led operations that led to the interception of illicit drugs and the recovery of a firearm connected to a murder and cultism case.

In a statement issued by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operations underscore the Command’s sustained crackdown on criminal networks across the state.

According to the statement, operatives of the Safer Highway Patrol (SHP), while on duty along the Onicha-Ugbo/Ewohimi Road on April 13, 2026, intercepted a Sienna bus conveying passengers to the northern part of the country.

The vehicle, driven by one Osuke Stephen, was subjected to a routine but intelligence-driven search.
During the operation, officers discovered illicit substances ingeniously concealed inside energy-saving electric bulbs.

The recovered exhibits include 490 grams of a substance suspected to be cocaine and 4 grams of a substance believed to be “loud,” a potent strain of cannabis.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the drugs were being transported to Abuja, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the crime.

In a related development, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT) recorded another breakthrough later the same day, following sustained investigations into a case involving conspiracy, cultism, and murder.

Acting on credible intelligence, the team recovered a pump-action gun with three rounds of live cartridges abandoned in the Ekigbo area of Ughelli.

The recovery is linked to the murder of one Alex Adanike, which occurred on January 15, 2026.

Police investigations revealed that a suspect, identified as Eddy Onose, who is currently at large, was in possession of the firearm before abandoning it upon noticing he was being trailed by security operatives.

He is also alleged to be affiliated with the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as “Aro Bagger.”

The Command confirmed that three suspects have already been arrested, charged to court, and remanded in custody in connection with the murder, while efforts are being intensified in collaboration with local vigilante groups to apprehend the fleeing suspect and recover additional evidence.

Reacting to the developments, the Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to proactive and intelligence-driven policing.

He emphasized that the ongoing operations are part of broader efforts to dismantle criminal syndicates and enhance public safety across Delta State.

The Police Commissioner further urged residents to remain vigilant and continue to support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to aid in crime prevention and detection.
