The Delta State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old suspected armed robber in an intelligence-led operation and recovered an AK-47 rifle, two locally made cut-to-size guns and three rounds of live ammunition.
The suspect, identified as Sunday Nimel, was arrested on October 7, 2026, at about 10:30 p.m. by operatives of the Commissioner of Police Special Assignment Team (CP-SAT), Ughelli, working in collaboration with local vigilantes.
According to the police, the suspect is alleged to be a member of an armed robbery syndicate linked to several residential robbery operations in Asaba and its environs.
The Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed in a press release dated October 10, 2026, that the arrest followed credible intelligence received by the operatives.
Edafe said the suspect made useful statements during interrogation, which led the operatives to a suspected criminal hideout near Okpanam City Gate.
The police reportedly recovered one AK-47 rifle, two locally made cut-to-size guns and three rounds of live ammunition from the location.
The Command said investigations were ongoing, adding that efforts were being sustained to dismantle criminal networks operating across Delta State.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the operatives for the operation and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and the protection of lives and property.
He also urged residents to continue providing credible information to security agencies to support efforts to prevent crime and apprehend criminal suspects.
