The Delta State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate intelligence-led operations targeting suspected cultism, armed robbery and kidnapping, recovering a locally made firearm, four live cartridges, one expended cartridge and a cutlass.
The operations, conducted on October 10, 2026, in Abraka and Ubulunor, involved operatives of the Command’s Quick Response Squad (QRS) and State Anti-Kidnapping Unit (SAKU), working alongside other security personnel and local vigilantes.
In a statement issued in Asaba on October 13, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said the arrests formed part of the Command’s sustained efforts to curb violent crime and strengthen security across the state.
Suspected Cultist Arrested in Abraka
In the first operation, operatives of the Quick Response Squad, acting on credible intelligence, arrested a 37-year-old man, Adogbeji Johnson, popularly known as “Highman,” in Abraka at about 4:45 p.m. on October 10.
The police said the suspect was believed to be associated with the Black Axe Confraternity, also known as Aiye, and was being investigated over alleged involvement in cultism and armed robbery.
A search of his Toyota Sienna vehicle reportedly led to the recovery of a locally made cut-to-size firearm, two live cartridges and a cutlass.
Johnson remains in police custody as investigations continue.
Suspected Kidnapper Nabbed in Ubulunor
In a separate operation carried out at about 3:30 p.m. on the same day, operatives of the State Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Ubuluku, in collaboration with personnel of the Ogwashi-Uku Division, the Civilian Anti-Cult Unit, Ubuluku, and local vigilantes, raided Ubulunor.
The operation resulted in the arrest of a 20-year-old suspect, Musa Mohammed, who is suspected of involvement in kidnapping activities.
The police said two live cartridges and one expended cartridge were recovered during the operation.
Mohammed is also in custody, while investigations are ongoing to establish the extent of his alleged involvement in criminal activities.
CP Reaffirms Crackdown on Violent Crime
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating violent crime through intelligence-led policing and coordinated security operations.
