Twenty-five days after speculations and political permutations as to where or which senatorial district is eligible to produce the successor to Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, as governor of Delta State were laid to rest, the Ijaws of Delta south senatorial district in a renewed agitation, has insisted that, it remains their turn to produce the next governor of the state come 2023.

In a fresh move, the immediate past president, Ijaw Youth Council (IYC), worldwide, Oweilaemi Pereotubo, Esq., who posted a picture of himself granting an interview on his verified Facebook page in the early hours of Thursday, disclosed that all including lobbying must be done to make the Ijaw dream of producing the next governor comes to reality.

Hear him: “We must deploy every available logistics at our disposal to actualize the ijaw Governorship dream in Delta State.

“This includes lobbying other ethnic nationalities to see reasons with us on how  imperatively important for us to produce the next governor to succeed Sen. Okowa for fairness, justice and equity.

“Remember, this is not a tea party. Anything worth doing is worth doing well. Unity is the watch word”, the former Ijaw youth leader said.

It would be recall that the social and online media platforms were awashed between August 30th and 31st 2020, following a former declaration by the state chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Barr. Kingsley Esiso, that the next governor of the state would come from Delta Central.

Esiso, who was visibly firm, factual and unequivocal, let the cat out of the bag on Sunday August 30, 2020, saying that power rotation in Delta State is strictly on the basis of senatorial district; and neither by tribe nor ethnic nationality as some folks want Deltans to believe, adding that the party leadership in the three senatorial districts of Delta North, South and Central had always been in one accord as to the devolution of power to Delta Central in 2023.

He further disclosed that “noise making or personal narrow opinions” were allowed in politics, which is why Deltans and Nigerians must not be swayed by all kinds of misinformation and self centered ambitions or political statements spiced with unpleasant tribal/ethnic colourations, as we navigate towards 2023 governorship election in Delta State.

Esiso took a step further in his maverick political declaration by corroborating the earlier promise made by the leader of the party in the State and Governor of Delta State, Senator Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, when he echoed it during his 2019 campaign tour that he shall certainly handover power to Delta Central candidate of PDP in 2023, based on the result oriented unity agreement of power rotation on senatorial district basis.

Esiso’s final seal on the issue of 2023 governorship in the state, provoked wild jubilations at Lovett Idisi’s palatial home, venue of the hosting of Esiso and the party’s State Organising Secretary, Okakuro Sunday Onoriode.

With this new development from the Ijaw ethnic nationality, the Urhobos of Delta Central and the PDP, still have a lot in their hands to conquer.
