Exodus Defection Hits APC, As Over 100 Members Decamp

Ahead of the local government elections, over 100 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), from Ogba/Egbema Ndoni local government area have dumped the party for the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), in Rivers State.

The former APC members who announced their defection at the State PDP Secretariat in Port Harcourt, said their decision was predicted on the superlative performance of the state governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in the last five years.

The leader of the decampees, Retired Assistant Commissioner of Police and former APC House of Representatives Aspirant for Onelga, Awelga Federal Constituency during the 2019 general elections, Hon. Kentus Obiye, said anybody, seeing the massive infrastructural and human capital developments going on in the state under the PDP led government in the state and still chooses to remain in the opposition is not with his Right frame  of mind.

Hon. Obiye, disclosed that the former APC faithful decided to dump the party, alleging that the party has failed the people in all ramifications.

“The purpose of joining political party is that the people should come together to control government, if that is not achieved, the purpose has been defeated.

He disclosed further that they dumped the party as the dividends of democracy was not seen, “When you form government, the dividends of whatever you are doing must be seen and felt by the people, and if you find yourself in an environment where that is not seen and felt, ,the purpose is also defeated”, Hon. Obiye, observed.

According to him “We were where we were and we felt we should go and try our hands, we went, we’ve seen; naturally, if where we were was better, we would have  remained there, but because it is not, we have to leave.

He berated members of the All Progressives Congress for criticising every thing Governor Nyesom Wike is doing in the state, including the various people oriented projects being embarked upon.

State Chairman of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, Ambassador Desmond Akawor who received the decampees said the massive defection of members of the APC to the PDP is due to the superlative performance of Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike in the state.

Ambassador Akawor who commended the former APC members for taking the right decision by dumping the APC, observed that under Governor Wike, the pride and respect which Rivers state used to enjoy in the past had been restored and Rivers State has once again become the pillar of the PDP in Nigeria.

“There is no way you can discuss PDP in this nation without talking to Rivers state, its not possible. That’s what Nyesom Wike had secured for us, that’s where we used to be under Dr Peter Odili; Ambassador Akawor noted.

SA (Media) to Amb. Desmond Akawor, the PDP Chairman Rivers State, described Onelga as a special and blessed place due to its rich oil and gas resources and urged the people to strive to occupy their pride of place in the political equation of the state.

Former Chairman of the PDP in the state, Bro Felix Obuah expressed happiness that the former APC members defeated on their own volution without anyone prompting  them, having witnessed the good works and the success story of the administration of Governor Nyesom Wike in the state.

He thanked the  State PDP Chairman for the great honor done to the people of Onelga by receiving them at the State party Secretariat.

In his remarks, the Director General of Wike for Positive Change, Professor Atuboyedia Obianeme noted that by returning to the PDP the former APC members have taken their rightful place in the scheme of things and advised them to continue to believe in the PDP and the government of Chief Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

PDP Chairman Onelga, Pastor Ejekwe Princewill Amos noted that with the massive defection of high profile members of the APC to the PDP, there was was nobody left in the APC in Onelga, a development he attributed to the unprecedented human and infrastructural developments going on in the state under the PDP-led government.

Other big wigs of the APC in Onelga who defected to the PDP were Hon Chijioke Gladson Ogwe, Former Chief Protocol officer, Onelga and APC stalwart in ward 7 ( igburu), Hon. Stanley Anyaladu, Zonal Coordinator, Supports Initiative for APC, Rivers west Senatorial district, Hon Sule Oluchukwu Igwela, Former supervising councillor for works and APC stalwart Igburu Ward 7 , Hon Kelvin Godpower Nnamdi APC LGA secretary ( Magnus Abe faction), Hon Austin Enebeli, Former supervisor for Information and Culture, Onelga, Ndoni ward 14, Hon Anthony Ogbowu. Hon Engr Kingsley E. Woko, Director Kin’s Comprehensive College, Hon Chief Cletus Duru and Prince Emeka Nwajiari, former APC ward 4 leader among others.
