Ahead of the 2023 general elections in Delta State, the governorship camps of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ovie Omo-Agege and that of his opponent, the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Sheriff Oborevwori were hit by death, which claimed seven lives.
The Camp of Omo-Agege, who is the Deputy Senate President and Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly (NASS), was on Tuesday December 20th 2022, thrown into mourning as a result of boat mishap which killed five while returning to Warri from Okerenkoko, Warri south west local government area of the state where they went for Ward-ward campaign.
The Publicity Secretary of the party in the state in a statement signed by E.V. Onojeghuo Esq., said following the ghastly accident involving one of the boats in our campaign fleet and the consequent death of five persons, “our State Party Chairman Elder Omeni Sobotie has directed that all APC campaign activities in the state be suspended forthwith.
The Party Chairman also directs that all candidates for the forthcoming 2023 elections, Senate, House of Representatives and State Assembly, should comply with this directive and shut down their campaigns until further directives are received from his office.
While the party mourns this tragic loss of lives of our dear members, flags at party offices and formations statewide are directed to be flown at half mast in respect to our fallen compatriots. All party formations across the state are also to join in prayers for the families of our bereaved heroes.
Elder Sobotie, while mourning the deceased, uses this opportunity to wish every member of our great party well in this season and urge us to offer prayers for the repose of the souls of our friends who died.
Funeral arrangements will be as announced by the families. The chairman invites everyone to participate actively in the funeral rites.
Similarly, the sad news equally took a swipe on the PDP following a ghastly motor accident which claimed the lives of a party member, Chief Joe Unuame and that of his driver.
Late Unuame, was on his way to Patani local government area where the PDP was holding its Ward-ward campaign when their black Toyota Jeep ram into a truck.
The driver died on the spot while Chief Unuame, died at the hospital where he was rushed to for medical attention.
While PDP hurriedly made a mockery press release sympathizing with APC and Omo-Agege, for the mishap, it got its own fair share when Unuame and his driver met their untimely deaths.
