Pandemonium As Court Restrains Parallel Election In Delta Community

A High Court of Justice sitting in Otu-jeremi, Ughelli south local government area of Delta State, in the Ughievwen Judicial Division has restrained Mr. Sunday Okreghe and others from conducting another election into the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of the community pending the hearing and determination of the originating summons.

The case which was presided over by His Lordship, Hon. Justice T. O. Uloho (Mrs), was brought before it by the President-General of Oviri-Olomu Community, Chief John Ewenede, on Wednesday 3rd of February,2021.

Also, a Court Order signed by the Asst. Chief Registrar, S.O. Ugbebor, reads thus: “According to the Claimant and the Defendants hereto, their agents, privies, assigns servants, surrogates are hereby restrained from conducting and/or participating in the election of the Oviri-Olomu Community in Ughelli south local government area, pending the hearing and determination of the originating summons”.

The case was adjourned to 4/3/2021 for hearing of the motion and for interlocutory injunction and/or the originating summons.

It could be recalled that Oviri-Olomu Community, had on the 9/12/2020 held its Election where Chief John Ewenede was declared winner and sworn in as President-General of the community.

Mr. Sunday Okreghe not satisfied with the outcome of the election took Chief Ewenede to court.

While the case was yet to be determined, Mr. Sunday Okreghe and others in the community set up electoral committee and declared Saturday 6/2/2021 for another election, a situation that has thrown the community into confusion.
