The Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi (CFR), Ojaja II, has described Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, as a genuine reformer and a symbol of transformative leadership in Nigeria.
The royal commendation came during a private meeting between the revered monarch and Governor Zulum at the Government House in Maiduguri, on the sidelines of the combined convocation ceremony of Kashim Ibrahim University.
Expressing deep admiration for the governor’s leadership style and resilience, Oba Ogunwusi praised Zulum’s commitment to rebuilding Borno State despite years of security and humanitarian challenges.
“I like what you are doing, and I am very proud of you,” the Ooni said.
“I want to come closer to you. I have been a fan of yours for a long time.
“You are a role model to many young people in this country. You have proven to everyone that you are truly a reformer. Many of us are watching and supporting everything you do.”
The monarch also highlighted the historic and cultural ties between the Kanuri and Yoruba peoples, describing them as “blood relatives” and stressing the importance of strengthening inter-ethnic collaboration, particularly in the area of economic development.
He pledged to encourage investors from the South-West to explore Borno State’s vast agricultural potential, noting that the state possesses extensive arable land capable of supporting large-scale farming.
“I have seen a vast expanse of land suitable for all kinds of agriculture. This state can indeed feed the entire country,” the Ooni remarked.
As a symbol of cultural solidarity and enduring friendship, the Ooni presented Governor Zulum with a traditional Yoruba artefact, representing the rich heritage and historical depth of the Yoruba nation.
In his response, Governor Zulum expressed appreciation for the monarch’s visit and for accepting the role of Chancellor of Kashim Ibrahim University.
He described the Ooni as a bridge-builder, a strong advocate of national unity, and a custodian of Nigeria’s cultural values.
Governor Zulum reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to sustaining development initiatives, strengthening peace, and advancing the long-term prosperity of Borno State.
