Addressing members of the One Million Youths for New Rivers State, led by its National Coordinator and Deputy Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, on a congratulatory visit at the Party Secretariat, Port Harcourt, Thursday, 15th October, 2020, Ambassador Akawor said the Governor Wike-led administration would continue to place premium on youths development.
“The youths are not only the engine room of any government, they are not only the fulcrum of activities of any government, but they are the future of any system”, Akawor stressed, urging them to remain supportive of the administration.
A press statement by the Special Assistant on Media, Paul Deeyah, the party chairman said: “We have to work together to help our Governor to have a smooth transition where he will also hand over to another PDP governor, so that the state will get to its Eldorado at the end of the day” he said, and commended the group for remaining intact after the last general elections.
Ambassador Akawor also admonished them to continue to play the role of watch dogs in their various units, wards and local government areas reminding them that enemies of the system were still very much around.
He disclosed that the party had since kick started its activities and announced that in the coming weeks the party’s zonal offices at Bori, Ahoada and Port Harcourt would be commissioned.
The PDP Chairman who lauded them for standing behind Governor Nyesom Ezenwo Wike when no one gave him the opportunity, described their decision as a wise one, insisting that the Governor has not disappointed them.
Earlier, the National Coordinator of One Million Youths for New Rivers State who is also the Deputy Speaker, Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, said they were at the Party Secretariat to congratulate Ambassador Desmond Akawor and members of the PDP Executive on their emergence.
Rt. Hon. Ehie, assured that youths of the state were totally in support of the new PDP leadership, saying that they never regretted voting Ambassador Akawor as chairman of PDP in the state.
Rt. Hon. Ehie, who also commended Governor Nyesom Wike for involving youths in the state in his developmental activities, including empowerment and appointment, explained that over two thirds of members of the Rivers state House of Assembly are youths while the Governor has also promoted gender inclusiveness by ensuring that the 23 local government Vice Chairmen are women.
